Ski for Light
Ski for Light. Inc. is an all volunteer organization that promotes cross-country skiing for vision and mobility impaired participants with events held throughout the United States. Sighted volunteers assist as guides, trainers and workers. For more information see the web site at sfl.org.
Ski for Light Puget Sound is hosted by Trollhaugen Lodge twice a month for regional events during January, February and March each winter. Vision and mobility impaired participants have the exclusive free use of the Troll Room on those days. The Trollhaugen managers and snow cats provide transportation for participants to and from the snow park. A separate Ski for Light Equipment Room is also provided in the lodge where skis, boots and poles are provided at no cost to participants.
This program continues with the financial support of District 2, the efforts of the Trollhaugen Board and of many District 2 Sons of Norway member volunteers who are guides, trainers and workers and who maintain the ski trails, prepare and erect trail signs, and conduct fund raising events. Many Sons of Norway lodges provide financial support for Ski for Light. For the 2010 season, sixteen District 2 lodges provided financial support for Ski for Light.
